I've learned sunset here on the billboard comes early--when the sun dips behind the billboard it drops 20 degrees up here. We need $400 a minute to hit the goal

This will make you smile:
1. Little girl brings her tweety bird savings bank and gives to Ocean of Love.
2. Family brings over water cooler jug filled with vacation money.
3. Family with 6 children, in their pajamas, bring ziploc bags filled with money they were going to spend on the boardwalk.
4. Little boy brings over lunch money, has free hot dog instead.
5. Mom won scratch off lottery ticket, gives it to her kids. They insist she drive here and they give it to Ocean of Love.
6. Little boy brings his chore money in a ziploc bag
7. Family goes trick or treating for money, not candy. They bring it to billboard radiothon.
If I've forgotten you in this post, I apologize; it's only because there have been so many examples of kids knowing the right thing to do. Cool, right?
get your ticket punched

The karma train is running thru Brick---you give to Ocean of Love and you will be happy in the knowledge you've helped out kids with cancer. Get your ticket punched by giving what you can and no more. Whats better than that? I need all the money I can get before 5p--Ocean of Love needs $105,700 to keep their important work going. If you're extra nice you'll get the upper berth

bill gates just got an email from me

Why not? I sent an email to his foundation. He loves to help kids charities out. I wrote him and told him I need about 55G to get me off the billboard. 55 Large to him is a rounding error on his mad money account. I didnt tell him those commercials with Jerry Seinfeld were dumb. Ill let you know if I get an answer.
tasty drink from the place named after the winning come out roll in craps
Thanks to the guy who brought me some pumpkin spice hot coffee latte thing -- in one of those cups that tells the world who youre going to vote for. the blue cup guy is winning according to them. Where's the cup for Steven Colbert?
cold and perplexed
Ocean County was treated as a private dumping ground for decades. Companies (and you know who they are) either didnt know the risk, or didnt care. Either way they are accountable for a lot of ocean county kids getting cancer. Has Union Carbide ever given a dime to Ocean of Love? For the record, no. Does that make you angry? Angry enough to make a donation to the kids?
a look into my tent where i keep warm. the winnie the pooh pillow was donated by an ocean of love volunteer, Sandra, who makes these pillows so the kids can use them while in the hospital, traveling in the car to treatment, etc. She started making them as part of Benjamin Smiles. You can check out Benjamin Smiles at this website http://www.friendsandco.net/benjamin/benjaminsmiles_letter.html
what is that glowing thing in the sky
Supposed to be abundantly sunny today....so cold last night there was ice on our inflatable Hawk "Flip". And ice on the billboard platform too so I step gingerly until the sun melts it. We need 25G today so we can make 105,700 by tomorrow at 5. BTW thanks to Tina from OCean of Love who stopped by at 6am to cook us breakfast. Tina brought a grill, eggs, bacon, pancake mix and we wolfed it down. Tina's another great employee of Ocean of Love. Your money is in good hands....

cheesesteaks whiz wit for everybody

Great to see the Phils win it. Why? Yankees fans hate the Mets. Mets fans hate the Phillies. Ipso Facto, Yankees fans heart the Phillies. Of course we also heart Tampa Bay this year for knocking off the hated Red Socks so this was a tough call. But the Yankees must take care of business next year against Tampa so advantage Phillies. Now all you Phillies fans come down to the billboard or click to donate http://www.oceanoflovebillboard.com/donate.htm
and send the cash!
bayville boys are back in bricktown
The firemen from Bayville--and by the number of them it looked like every firefighter in the area -- took up a collection. Took $300+ out of their own pockets. Impressive enough, then they bring the 10 story ladder truck to deliver the money to me on top of the billboard. There's pics and video and hopefully it'll be up soon on the website. Especailly when they stretched out the ladder to all 100 feet, right above me. So not only do they save our lives, they take their own money and give to Ocean of Love. Firemen are the best.
go phillies

Look, the Yankees are not playing in the series so I'm not as engaged as usual in october baseball, but if youre a Phillies fan come down now and put a down payment on the good karma so they win. Linda from Ocean of Love has endorsed the Karma that will go to the Phillies IF you donate to our Radiothon for Ocean of Love. Call 877 Hawk 1057 or click to donate http://www.oceanoflovebillboard.com/donate.htm
If the Phillies win, come back and donate again!

spare a dime
Someone came by and scrounged his car for loose change. He turned in a couple of bucks that way. What a great idea--just look around for coins and we'll take it no matter what the amount.
Donate more than $25 bucks and get a limited edition t-shirt BTW

doctors and lawyers part 2
Hopefully this continues....Doctor Tom stopped by to challenge all the other doctors and lawyers to drop in at least $200 like he did. Race and I continue to be amazed by the "blue collar" workers donating the majority of the money and are waiting for Doctor Tom's challenge to kick in. He was one doctor who proved our thesis wrong, and we hope that continues. I promise we will mention each doctor or lawyer who comes out. Give us some grief by giving us the cash for Ocean of Love.
a big hug
...to the person who invented the mini hand warmer things. You shake them and they get hot? Holding a mini nuclear reaction in your hand is empowering. At least it's getting sunnier today. $$ tally is 32 Grand, a lot of money but we need 73 grand more. We've never missed the goal and its not going to happen this year...

doctors and lawyers

Race and I got into another on-air rant today. We kept track of who was visiting the billboard and donating. Blue Collar guys (landscapers, heating/ac, delivery people you know who you are) and kids with their parents. Kids who hand over their piggy bank, their tooth fairy money, and in one instance: almost a 5 gallon water bottle full of change that the family was saving for a vacation. Instead, all of these people dropped a few bucks or ten times that amount for Ocean of Love.
SO we kept track and found not a doctor or lawyer in the bunch. We ask the donors who they are and what they do. No MD's or PhD's or ESQ's. Race and I noticed this last year and the year before. We cant figure it out. Why do people who seem to have the least to give, give the most? Can anyone answer that? Anyone? Bueller?
snowblind
You have got to be kidding me. We heard reports of snow west in NJ and PA but now it is truly a winter wonderland in beautiful Brick. Snow is coming down sideways! We've seen everything during Billboard Radiothons and this is something new.
Should they be salting the roads? Load up on bread and milk!
We're over 20G now. I think people are realizing how important it is to raise money for ocean of love, especially this year.

just wondering

we ended last years radiothon in the rain and started this one in the rain. highlight of both days: the kids no older than 10 that have come out and have given their piggy bank savings to ocean of love. unbelievable. I'll bet they didnt even hesitate. younger kids seem to know its important to help other people. are you hesitating?

tough nite
Not being much of the outdoors type, i forgot how loud rain can be in a tent. The wind doesnt help either. Tuesday morning and its still drizzling. It's amazing the number of heavy big trucks rumble by Rt 88. Doesnt seem like the road is big enough for them. "If you beep dont be cheap" drop some money here at the billboard.

Just Hours Away
I'm packing up my duffel bag with extra warm clothes ready to hit the 'board. I'm looking forward to it because it gets the money to Ocean of Love, and I know our community will rally together to help the kids no matter what the economy. These families still need our help now more than ever. I hate spouting cliches but it's true. So at any point that the urge hits to give a couple of bucks, do it. It'll get me down quicker and help the families quicker. I'm getting in the crane at 5p to get me up there so tune in!
